Please welcome Dr. Tanner Miest to Urology of Virginia.
Dr. Tanner Miest is a native of the Midwest, where he received his MD and PhD from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He subsequently completed an internship in General Surgery followed by Urology residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He then completed additional subspeciality fellowship training in Urologic Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Miest’s clinical interests include surgical management of all urologic cancers, including minimally invasive robotic and open urologic surgery for prostate cancer (radical prostatectomy), kidney cancer (partial and radical nephrectomy), upper tract urothelial carcinoma (radical nephroureterectomy), bladder cancer (radical cystectomy) and testicular cancer (radical orchiectomy and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection).
Dr. Miest has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications describing novel medical and surgical management of urologic cancers. He has presented his research at national and international meetings, and initiated a clinical trial evaluating an experimental oncolytic virus for the treatment of bladder cancer.
Dr. Miest is excited to join Urology of Virginia and provide excellent, evidence-based and guideline-concordant care for all urologic cancers, placing the individuals needs of each patient above all else. Dr. Miest has a passion for tailoring patient’s treatment plans to their unique clinical situations to ensure each patient receives the best possible care from diagnosis through final treatment of their complex urologic cancers.
In his free time, Dr. Miest enjoys spending time with his family as well as maximizing his time outdoors where he is an avid skier and fisherman.
