We are seeking a professional and experienced Medical Lab Technician/Laboratory Scientist to work in a large specialty group’s high complexity Clinical Lab. This position requires primarily Monday - Friday hours with flexible weekend hours for microbiology needed on a rotating basis.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform microbiology tests for urine cultures, utilizing both manual methods and BD Phoenix M50
- Perform chemistry/immunoassay lab tests utilizing Roche e411 analyzer
- Perform all quality control procedures as described in the Lab Procedure Manual
- Participate in the performance of proficiency testing on all applicable lab tests
- Maintain proper documentation as described in the quality assurance program including equipment records, worksheets, and quality control logs
- Maintain specimen logs and laboratory reports in Orchard lab information system (LIS)
- Handle outgoing patient lab results by providing final reports to the ordering physician in a timely manner
- Accession and process lab specimens as outlined in the Lab Procedure Manual
- Use Epic EMR for communication with providers and staff and for charting patient information regarding lab results, specimen rejection, provider orders, etc.
- Assist with special reporting or billing processes concerning clinical trials or other special projects authorized by the lab supervisor

Description :
Urology of Virginia is seeking an experienced Molecular Lab Tech to work in both their UroVysion FISH and Molecular PCR Labs.
Primary Responsibilities in Molecular PCR and UroVysion FISH Labs:
Perform all tasks and benchtop procedures necessary to maintain the day-to-day operations of Molecular laboratories including all necessary QC and QA according to CLIA and OSHA regulations.
- Perform all tasks to process urine PCR testing and reporting of results.
- Perform all tasks to process urine PCR testing and reporting of results.
- Process patient specimens for UroVysion FISH on ThinPrep to produce slides.
- Perform the Abbott UroVysion FISH assay on the patients’ ThinPrep slides.
- Correctly enumerate patient results manually using fluorescent microscopy.
- Photograph exemplar cells in positive patient specimens for inclusion in patient reports.
- Work closely with pathologist to ensure accurate patient FISH assay reporting.
- Maintain inventory of PCR and UroVysion FISH supplies
- Maintain all PCR and FISH lab equipment and documentation of all maintenance & repairs
- Participate in proficiency testing and maintaining quality assurance program
- Participate in maintaining Lab Procedure Manuals to include review of old procedures and the writing of new procedures per CLIA and/or CAP regulations if applicable.
Preferred skills and abilities for PCR/FISH/Lab:
- Knowledge of aseptic technique
- Experience with manual pipetting
- Experience performing reagent prep
- Experience performing daily QA/QC activities
- Experience performing and troubleshooting assays (PCR and FISH) and performing routine maintenance, calibrations and troubleshooting on equipment
- Microscopy knowledge and experience (fluorescent and phase contrast)
- Experience with Thermofisher QuantStudio and KingFisher is a plus.
- Experience working with clinical specimens, use of PRSQL, Orchard LIS, or Epic EMR is a plus
- Time management and project management skills (multitasking between PCR & FISH and other areas within the clinical/pathology lab as needed)
Requirements :
- Minimum of a BS in a clinical science (i.e. Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or Laboratory Science)
- 2+ years’ work experience in a clinical laboratory; experience in a molecular and UroVysion FISH Lab is strongly preferred
- Fluorescent microscopy required, thus cannot be colorblind
- Strong attention to detail when performing admin, clerical, and technical laboratory duties
- Strong interpersonal skills and a good team player to work closely with others

We are seeking a professional and experienced Surgery Scheduler who will perform a variety of complex, administrative tasks for a physician, as assigned.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Answer telephones on a timely basis. Check voicemail daily.
- Schedule patient appointments (UVA, pre and post op appointments, and surgery clearances). Reschedule surgeries if necessary
- Obtain authorization for surgery and work closely with the Pre-Auth/Benefit team with letting patient’s know the amount of the surgical estimates and collecting deposit if needed
- Make sure H&Ps, labs, urine cultures, and medical clearances are obtained and up to date prior to surgery
- Update Office Tracker and MD’s personal calendar with surgery/meetings
- Scan Surgery papers into EMR system
- Call surgery patients that are scheduled 7 days in advance and confirm the time of the surgery, let them know when to arrive, and make sure they have not taken in blood thinners
- Verify weekly surgeries in Office Tracker with each area hospitals and maximize provider’s surgery time
- Assist patients with signing consent, explaining orders and anything else that is needed with the hospital work up office visit
- Call post-surgery patients two days after discharge to check on them.
- Notify PCR Coordinator if a surgery has been canceled and the physician can work back into the office
- Inform manager and physician of any potential scheduling conflicts or patient complaints / concerns.
- Directly admit patients from office to hospital when needed
- Sort through the fax server
- Schedule and maintain physician’s calendars. Notify appropriate person of meeting purpose, time, place, preparation of agenda. Verify Athena, Office Tracker, and any other scheduling book or device is in sync.

We are seeking an experienced Medical Lab Tech/Scientist for our small but busy Urology Surgical Pathology Lab performing a variety of administrative duties along with accessioning and processing of specimens. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail. This position is full-time Monday - Friday day shift.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Accession surgical pathology specimens according to lab procedures
- Perform administrative lab duties, including orders between our lab and outside labs & medical facilities (i.e., genetic and genomic tests orders, 2nd opinions and consultations) requiring the shipping of pathology slides/blocks and maintaining an inventory of vendor kits & supplies
- Assist with Quality Assurance procedures as outlined in the Lab Procedure Manuals and maintain documentation including other surgical pathology logs
- Participate in answering and handle incoming calls and faxes to the Pathology Lab
- Backup for accessioning Non-GYN cytology specimens to include processing on ThinPrep and staining of slides according to our cytology lab procedures
- Participate in the review and updating of Lab Procedure Manuals, to include revising or writing of SOP’s per CLIA and/or CAP regulations if applicable
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties assigned by the Director of Lab Services as needed
- Perform all duties according to CLIA, OSHA and HIPAA regulations
Requirements :
- Minimum education of Associate in Applied Science/ Medical Laboratory Technician program at an accredited institution and be Board eligible, if not already certified
- 3+ years’ work experience in a medical laboratory. Experience in a pathology, cytology or oncology setting is a plus.
- Good computer keyboarding skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Previous use of Orchard LIS or Epic EMR is a plus
