The FDA recently released a statement advising caution with the use of robotic-assisted surgical devices in women’s health

The FDA recently released a statement advising caution with the use of robotic assisted surgical devices in women’s health. The safety communication is primarily focused on surgical treatments for breast and cervical cancer such as mastectomy and hysterectomy. However, robotic assisted surgical devices such as the Da Vinci Surgical system have been used in the field of urology for over fifteen years. Over this time, countless studies in peer-reviewed journals have proven its safety and efficacy in regards to local cancer recurrence, disease-free survival, and overall survival for both prostate and kidney cancer. In addition, these robotic assisted surgeries offer patients less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and quicker recovery time than traditional surgery.
